The Russian government in 2017 plans to revise the composition of the consumer basket.

The Cabinet shall prepare and adopt a new law "On the consumer basket in the whole of the Russian Federation." The Ministry of Labour and Social Protection explained that the new document will be designed for healthy food standards. It is envisaged that a minimum set of food consumption basket will be formed taking into account the need to improve the quality of food. It is planned that in the consumer basket will be less cereals and bakery products, but more fruits and vegetables as well as meat, fish, dairy products.

The bill is to prepare Ministry of Labor. The Health Ministry reported that they are going to take part in the discussion of the document. The bill plans to submit to the government in September. With his acceptance of the new rules will take effect from January 1 next year.

The Russian officials have used the concept of the consumer basket in the calculation of minimum subsistence and food inflation assessment. According to government regulation, in the third quarter of last year the cost of living in the whole of Russia amounted to 9 thousand. 889 rubles a month.
