Now, when making
banknotes of the Bank of Russia, paper containing 100% cotton is used.
The regulator plans to use polymers when issuing a 200-ruble note, which will
be put into circulation this year, as well as a 100-ruble note dedicated to the
2018 FIFA World Cup.
According to experts of the Central Bank, the use of polymers will increase the
protection of new banknotes, make the bills more durable, in fact plastic.
Experts note that the lifetime of plastic bills is three to five times longer
than the life of paper. Polymeric money also has a great potential when
protecting against forgery. The production of polymer banknotes reduces energy
consumption by 30% compared to energy consumption for the production of paper
money.
According to the Central Bank on July 1, 2017, 5 billion 785.9 million banknotes
