As the Internet portal "Kuban 24" wrote, the contest for the selection of a symbol for new banknotes was opened by the Central Bank on June 28, 2016. In the second round of the selection of symbols were the cinema "Aurora" and the monument to Catherine II in Krasnodar, as well as the Olympic stadium "Fisht" and the ski resort "Rosa Khutor" in Sochi. The resort city went to the final of the competition. The winners of online voting were Sevastopol and Kazan.
The final vote of the project "People's Banknote" was held on October 7, 2016 on the air of the TV channel "Russia 1". According to its results, the Far East came first, the second - Sevastopol. Sochi was in fourth place.
The Bank of Russia in February approved the design of new banknotes. On the denomination of 200 rubles will be placed the symbols of Sevastopol - an image of a monument to scuttled ships and a view of Tauric Chersonesos, and on a 2,000-ruble note there will appear the famous places of the Far East - the bridge to Russky Island in Vladivostok and the Vostochny Cosmodrome in the Amur Region.
