Foreign suppliers of coffee prices in January-May increased by 21.7% compared to the same period in 2016.
This is stated in the monthly survey of the Ministry of Agriculture, in which the department refers to the operational data of the Federal Customs Service (FCS). The review also indicates that physical volumes of coffee imports grew by 3.6%.
According to the United interdepartmental information and statistical system, natural instant coffee increased by 9% in January-May relative to the same period in 2016: the average price for it in five months increased to 2.36 thousand rubles per 1 kg. Natural coffee in beans and ground rose by 6% - the average price of 1.01 thousand rubles per 1 kg. In coffee houses and fast food for five months the price for a glass of drink increased by 3% - up to 67 rubles.
According to the president of the national trade association Vadim Zuykov, the increase in the prices of importers may be due to a crop failure in Latin America this year.
"It is worth waiting for a deferred price increase, because coffee - the product that is stored for a long time and which still needs to be packaged. The increase can occur by the New Year and will be either directly proportional or even large, "Zuikov said.
The general director of the Russian Association of Tea and Coffee Producers, Ramaz Chanturia, said that the organization did not record serious fluctuations in world coffee prices. According to his assumption, importers can try to compensate losses of previous years in connection with exchange rate differences.
