The State Duma believes that the response to sanctions against Russia should be the expansion of the food embargo.
The initiative was made by deputy Sergei Mironov. In his opinion, restrictions should be extended to the importation of alcoholic beverages. The deputy explained that alcoholic beverages are the same products of the agrarian sector as cheese or apples. He noted that the ban on the importation of alcohol from Europe and the United States can hit the fans of quality gin and whiskey.
"Maybe this is a good reason to give up alcohol, save the family budget and keep health," added Mironov.
The deputy called for a ban on importing into the country of imported cosmetics and household chemical goods, excluding US Treasury bonds from the currency reserves of the Russian Federation and refusing to use Microsoft's state institutions and software on computers.
President of the United States Donald Trump signed the law on anti-Russian sanctions on August 2. The EU Council on June 28 extended economic sanctions against Russia for six months.
