The minimum wage in Russia will be brought to the level of the subsistence
level in the next few years. This April 19, said Russian Prime Minister Dmitry
Medvedev, speaking in the State Duma with a report on the work of the
government.
"Last year, we raised the minimum wage twice - up to 7,500 rubles,
although it was also not easy, and I had to hold several meetings on this
topic, explaining why it should be done. From July 1 this year, the minimum
wage will rise to 7,800 rubles, "the prime minister recalled.
He promised that the salary increase for workers in the spheres of education,
health and culture will continue.
Medvedev said that the government controls the situation on delays in the
payment of salaries in the country in almost daily mode. He noted that in 2016,
25 billion rubles were paid to more than 1 million people.
"Now we are preparing amendments to the legislation in order to better
protect the rights of working people," the prime minister said.
According to Medvedev, in Russia the collection of taxes has increased, despite
the moratorium on increasing the tax burden.
"In the first quarter of this year, tax revenues increased by almost a
third compared to the first quarter of last year," Medvedev quotes
Kommersant.
According to Olga Batalina, head of the State Duma Committee on Labor, Social
Policy and Veterans Affairs, on May 17, 2016, she announced plans to equate the
minimum wage with the subsistence minimum. The head of the Ministry of Labor,
Maxim Topilin, noted on February 21 that the minimum wage (SMIC) can be set
separately for each of the regions of the Russian Federation, but not for the
entire country. Later, he said that the minimum wage in Russia should grow to
11 thousand rubles.
