8.7 billion rubles out of the federal budget to be channelled for the establishment of a dry-cargo port of Taman

The funds will be allocated within the federal target investment program "Development of the Russian transportation system".

Currently a project providing for the construction of dedicated terminals for coal, sulfur, metals and mineral fertilizers’ handling as well as container and grain terminals on the Taman Peninsula has been developed. Positive findings of the General Board of State Expert Review and State Environmental Expertise have been obtained in respect of the project. The port’s estimated capacity will make more than 93.8 million tons per year – as reported by the Regional transport and road ministry.

It is planned to implement the project on the terms of public-private partnership.

The construction of the facility is estimated at 228 billion rubles, in broad terms, of which the federal budget funds – 76 billion rubles and extra-budgetary sources – 152 billion rubles.

The construction of a new port in Taman should eliminate the deficit of overload capacities for dry cargoes in the Russian ports of Azov-Black Sea basin and ensure the capability to admit vessels of maximum cargo lifting capacity up to 150 thousand tons. Besides, the ice-free capacity of the port of Taman will enable to attract some of the cargo traffic from the ports of Azov basin under the unfavorable ice conditions.

17 marine commercial ports operate in Azov-Black Sea basin. The port of Novorossiysk dominates – it accounts for more than 65% of the processed cargoes.
